Surely - and purely as a sign of intent - every major club in world football must express some sort of interest in signing Kylian Mbappé even if they do not want him or cannot afford him. Chelsea are, supposedly, the latest to claim they might want to bring him in from Paris Saint-Germain. The Blues are trying to put a cash-plus-player deal together to give them some vague hope of reuniting him with Mauricio Pochettino.

Speaking of Chelsea and young French talent, they want to sign Michael Olise. The London-born Crystal Palace winger represents France at international level because he is eligible through his mother. Anyway, Chelsea are keen on him too.

The Eagles might finally get involved in the transfer market themselves by acquiring Brazilian teenager Matheus França from Flamengo after negotiating a fee of €20m plus sundries.

The former Arsenal youngster Yunus Musah is set to depart Valencia to join Milan. He’s been in fine form for an underperforming Los che, so will be pretty happy to swap the Mestalla for San Siro, which will set Milan back €20m and some add ons.

Burnley still have some work to do in the market and one potential arrival is the Galatasaray full-back Sacha Boey. The Frenchman was key in last season’s Super Lig triumph but could be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

The latest, in a very long list, of players moving to Saudi Arabia is Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mané. The forward has agreed a contract that will see him earn £34m (€40m) per year until 2027 after the Al-Nassr settled on a £24m fee.

If Mbappé does leave the French capital, PSG are planning to soften the blow by bringing in Ousmane Dembélé from Barcelona. All it would take is activating his €50m release clause, which is relative peanuts in this day and age. The France forward has blown got and cold in Catalonia, so could be keen to head home.

Not to be put off by having two bids rejected by Bristol City for Alex Scott, Wolves will go back with a third and final offer for the midfielder. And if that’s rejected? They will probably reconsider and put more money on the table.

The Spurs full-back Sergio Reguilón is a target for Real Sociedad. Reguilón fell out of favour last season and was shipped out on loan to Atlético Madrid. It is unknown if Ange Postecoglu sees Reguilón as part of his plans so could allow him to depart for San Sebastián.

There is a little bit of goalkeeper jiggery pokery going on in the Premier League. Arsenal are keen on David Raya but Brentford want £40m for the Spaniard, and the Bees have already rejected a loan offer from Bayern Munich. If he does head to the Gunners, that would allow Matt Turner to head off to pastures new, with Nottingham Forest keen on the American. Another potential target for the Tricky Trees is New England Revolution stopper Djordie Petrovic. Where this leaves their move for Dean Henderson, who knows?

With Tino Livramento expected to leave Southampton for Newcastle, the Saints need a new right-back, and have identified Norwich’s Max Aarons as the man for the role.

West Ham need to get serious in transfer market – they desperately need signings

By Roshane Thomas

West Ham United are the only Premier League club who are yet to make a summer signing — as startling a statement as it is worrying for David Moyes and the club’s supporters.

As the clock ticks closer to their league opener against Bournemouth on August 12, West Ham are no closer to finding a replacement for Declan Rice (following his £105million switch to Arsenal), the squad is in a worse state than it was at this stage last year and they still have not announced successors for former first-team coaches Mark Warburton and Paul Nevin.

But the pressing issue is the prolonged search for Rice’s replacement. Internally, the hierarchy knew in December that this window was their last chance to earn a sizeable fee for Rice. But the haphazard nature of their bids for his successor has left little to be desired. The Athletic, on condition of anonymity to protect relationships, has spoken to leading agents in football and some expressed frustration over how West Ham are conducting their business.

History shows West Ham have a tendency of making underwhelming opening offers and that is continuing this summer, a case in point being the £20m offer for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, which was rejected out of hand.

“We’re a big football club that has been relegated to the Championship but we’ve got a value and we’re not going to allow our players to leave if we don’t feel it’s a win-win,” Jason Wilcox, Southampton’s sporting director, told the Southern Daily Echo.

Southampton’s valuation of Ward-Prowse is £40m but it is thought they would sell for £35m. Ward-Prowse is 28, an England international and proven in the Premier League. The midfielder being a dead-ball specialist would complement Moyes’ squad. As it stands, Conor Coventry, Lucas Paqueta, Tomas Soucek and Flynn Downes are Moyes’ midfield options.

Coventry has only played one minute of top-flight football, while Downes has been the subject of transfer speculation. Youngsters Freddie Potts and Kamarai Simon-Swyer have joined Wycombe Wanderers and Crawley Town on season-long loans respectively.

Despite Tim Steidten’s appointment as technical director, it remains Moyes’ preference to recruit British and homegrown players this summer. West Ham had a £40m bid for Conor Gallagher rejected by Chelsea and the 23-year-old intends on staying at the west London club and impressing new manager Mauricio Pochettino. Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is a target for Moyes but an offer is yet to be made.

McTominay’s team-mate Harry Maguire was the subject of a £20m offer by West Ham, another that was quickly rejected. Moyes wants Maguire, who was relieved of the United captaincy by Erik ten Hag ahead of the new season, but it is doubtful they will keep pushing given the size of his salary and it is also unclear if the England centre-back would be keen to make the move. Another defensive target is Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah.

“The club have made several offers for players,” Moyes told Sky Sports. “We are out in the market. We are quite active. Hopefully, some of them will come off in the future.”

But attempts to bolster their midfield options remain arduous. Having seen their £45m offer rejected for Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, West Ham have turned to other targets. Denis Zakaria’s proposed loan move from Juventus has reached an impasse, while there has been no progress with talks over Ajax for midfielder Edson Alvarez.

West Ham did their business late last summer and it worked against them as they were sucked into a relegation battle. Lucas Paqueta, Thilo Kehrer and Emerson were late arrivals and the trio struggled with form during the early stages of the season. Lessons have not been learnt and West Ham are playing catch up, despite the lure of the Europa League.

Aston Villa signed Pau Torres for £33m, Newcastle United have signed Harvey Barnes and broke their transfer record for Sandro Tonali, Tottenham Hotspur have recruited James Maddison, a previous target for West Ham. Even Bournemouth look in better shape, having spent more than £40m on Romain Faivre, Justin Kluivert and Hamed Traore.

But is not just incomings which are giving Moyes cause for concern. Aaron Cresswell and Nikola Vlasic are keen on joining Wolverhampton Wanderers and Torino, while Michail Antonio continues to be linked to Steven Gerrard’s new club, Al Ettifaq, in Saudi Arabia. Cresswell has lost his place in the team to Emerson and the 33-year-old was not in the matchday squad for the 3-1 friendly defeat against Rennes.

Vlasic, who joined for £25.7m in 2021, has taken a leaf out of Gianluca Scamacca’s book. The midfielder wants to finalise a return to Torino within the next 10 days and he did not hold back in his interview with TuttoSport: “I’m fed up with this dead-end situation,” said Vlasic. “We all know that I’m not considered an important player here, I’m just one of many in the reserve group.

“I returned to London respecting the call-up with great fairness and I am training every day with the utmost professionalism, but this cannot be the solution. I’ve been telling you for two months that I want to play for Torino, that I no longer want to stay at West Ham under these conditions, on the sidelines. Your behaviour is incomprehensible. I know that Torino has already offered you €9m for a long time, an important figure, respectful of my value and your needs.

“But you don’t intend to negotiate with Torino, you repeat that it’s not enough, but you still don’t communicate to the Italian club what the right figure is, in your opinion. I’m worried: I will continue training with great seriousness, but it cannot go on like this.”

What a mess it is all turning into.

It is 34 days and counting before the window closes. Time is running out and, more importantly, Rice is no longer around to be West Ham’s saviour. They need quality additions — quickly.

£40m winger has now been offered to West Ham United

Subhankar Mondal

David Moyes’s West Ham United have been offered the chance to sign Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest, according to a report.

According to The Times, West Ham United have been offered the chance to sign Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers have turned down the opportunity.

Brentford, though, are keen on the winger.

The London club have made an offer of £35 million for the 22-year-old winger, according to The Times.

Forest have rejected Brentford’s bid for Johnson.

The Reds want as much as £40 million for the Wales international winger.

West Ham United should show interest in Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson

In our opinion, West Ham United should keep tabs on Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson.

We can understand why the Hammers have turned down the chance to sign the Welshman in the summer transfer window.

After all, Forest are asking for £40 million.

That is too much money for a player who has played just one season of top-flight football.

We believe that a transfer fee between £20 million and £30 million would be more realistic for Johnson.

If Brentford do not make a new offer and the winger stays at Forest, then West Ham should keep tabs on him and see how he does in the coming campaign.

There is no doubt that the 22-year-old is a very good and promising young winger who has massive potential.

In 38 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career, the Wales international has scored eight goals and given three assists.

Johnson was very good for Forest last season and impressed former Manchester United star Roy Keane among others.

If the winger does well again next season, then perhaps West Ham could get serious about him next summer.

Juventus begins to make cash. Denis Zakaria's farewell is considered imminent after the positive contacts of the weekend. The d.t. Cristiano Giuntoli, who returned early from his tour in the USA, and the d.s. Giovanni Manna should say goodbye to the Swiss midfielder already this week. The Juventus managers have reached an agreement in principle with Monaco as well as with Leipzig and West Ham. Now it's up to Zakaria, who is training at Continassa with redundancies these days, to decide where to start again. Juve are just waiting to find out from whom they will receive the check for around 20 million

Thanks Alan.

Zakaria sounds promising from an admin point of view (and that’s the exciting bit). Hopefully he’ll choose us.

I can’t say I’ve seen too much of him, but a mate with a season ticket at Chelsea rated him (would have done more but got injuries)
